Who is StuDIYo Lab?

StuDIYo Lab was created to inspire children to harness their unlimited imagination, giving them the tools [and skills] necessary to hone their craft.

Design and Technology enables children to experiment with their dexterity, building familiarity of working with their hands from a young age. We at StuDIYo Lab believe that, through encouraging these skills, children can grapple with problem-solving and critical thinking. Children who attend our classes and workshops are taught to select and use appropriate tools safely and effectively to make a product. Lessons learned in StuDIYo Lab classes can easily transfer to the world around them.

From 5 years and above, StuDIYo Lab offers a range of exciting workshops for children, adults and families. Activities may vary in theme, skill-level, and duration, but the outcome is consistent: everyone will walk away with a finished project to be proud of, and an understanding of the precision that goes into Design Technology.

Our Vision

To pioneer the development of children-oriented Design & Technology curriculae, focusing on experiential learning as a foundation for longer-term and better comprehension in children.

Our Mission

• To inspire the next generation of learners to have a more memorable and interactive connection to making, building and creating.

• To promote a culture of technical development and creation, providing the resources for them to develop their skills through hands-on approach to learning.

• To provide a safe and supportive environment where children may thrive and realise their potential.

Meet the Team

Here are the people that make it all happen! The creative connoisseurs that had a vision to bring Design & Technology to those children attending UAE schools, giving them the tools and techniques to bring their creative imaginings to reality! Our highly enthusiastic and professionally educated staff have a common dream – to make Design & Technology accessible and elevate creative classes and outlets in the UAE.

Lina Sadek

Founder

Dubai born Lina Sadek founded Studiyo Lab 4 years ago, with the belief that the culture of making should start with kids from a young age and that kids learn in an immersive way. It started with the activity of woodworking, offered at schools as an after school activity , giving kids as young as 5 years old the opportunity to make things out of wood, learning skills and applying themselves creatively in a safe way and in a manner not offered in schools.

From there the business progressed to offer two more components of Resistant Materials; metal casting and acrylic moulding! Today, Studiyo Lab is a full fledged center with its first ever physical location, the first of its kind, opened at Times Square Center , offering a wide range of project based activities using wood, metal and acrylic, targeting kids as young as 5 years old.

Tom Moran

Design Technology Teacher

Growing up in rural Ireland, Tom Moran was always fascinated by how things worked. At school he excelled in graphic drawing and design and technology. He was even a finalist in the prestigious Young Scientist competition, with his innovative design, the ‘Gum Buster’!

It was a natural choice for Tom to progress to the University of Limerick to study Design Education. On achieving his degree, Tom moved to London where he worked as a Design and Technology teacher for a number of years. In 2015, he swapped the grey skies of the UK for the sunny beaches of the UAE. Skilled in all aspects of product design, Tom particularly enjoys working with wood. Tom is passionate about supporting young people develop their skill base and creating their very own designs.
